About & Contact Me

 Hello Hello,

My name is Lauren and I was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area! I started this blog in 2007 to share my stories, excitement and frustrations as a solo young woman traveling in Africa. I bought a one way ticket to Tanzania, 60 liter backpack, trusty lonely planet with the goal to make it to Cape town, South Africa. Eight months later, I arrived in Cape town feeling satisfied and burnt out. But that didn’t stop me from joining an overland 22 day tour of Namibia, Botswana and Zambia. I returned home in July 2008 and surprised my mom by sitting on the couch when she returned home from a getaway weekend.

Loving the Great Sand Dunes in Colorado

After three years of being home- making new friendships, learning new skills, working as a Farmers Market Manager and  as a Garden Educator for an After school program teaching k-12 grade youth about where and how food grows.  I embarked on a new adventure leaving a boyfriend and friends behind to live my dream of living in Spain. Andalucia chose me in a small beach side town known Roquetas de Mar, near the city of Almeria.

One year teaching English as an Auxiliar de Conversacion through the Ministry of Education of Spain (aka: Language and Culture Assistant) at a (instituto) turned in to an unexpected second year in the North in the quaint city of  Vitoria- Gasteiz, Basque Country. After a year abroad in Spain, and then two years in two different regions I still don’t know what led me to Spain in the first place but I’ve learned an incredible amount about myself and fulfilled a dream.

Now I’m back in the Bay Area figuring out my next steps as I continue to pursue my passions within the food movement and creating positive change.

Join me as I continue to write about past and new local adventures, food, and the unexpected life brings.

I love getting comments on my blog (who doesn’t?).  Have a question? Want to say something? Love what I had to say? Don’t agree?  Let me know!
